My family
Genomics and my family
We inherit our genome from both our parents, which means some of our genetic information is considered “inherited”.

However, not all genetic changes are inherited. That means that even if you have a genetic change that impacts your health, it may not impact your family.
When you have genetic testing as part of your care, your clinical team will speak to you about how this may impact you and your current and future family.
If you have a genetic condition or a change that alters your risk of disease that is inherited, you and your family may be offered genetic counselling to understand the next steps and their options. Genetic testing is always you and your family’s choice.
